Local Police Take Part in National “Coffee with a Cop Day”

Fairfield (NJ) On Wednesday October 4, 2017 the Fairfield Police Department, in conjunction with the Fairfield Municipal Alliance Committee and Manhattan Bagel, took part in the national “Coffee with a Cop Day”. From 8Am until 11 AM, several Fairfield police officers were on hand at Manhattan Bagel greeting patrons as they came in and buying them a free cup of coffee as a way thank the community for all their support of law enforcement. It also gave patrons the opportunity to meet officers in a different way than the way they may usually do like at medical calls, at crime scenes or during enforcement actions. Patrons were given the opportunity to also inform the officers about any issues that they may be concerned about.

The cost for the project was provided by the Fairfield Municipal Alliance Committee and the whole idea was embraced by the owners and staff of Manhattan Bagel. Well over 200 cups of coffee were given out.

“The three hours that our officers got to spend having coffee with our citizens is a great investment in helping to expand even more, the community policing philosophy that our department embraces everyday” said Chief Anthony G. Manna.  “ It was priceless to the see the immediate reactions of patrons walking into the store, seeing so many officers and then being told that the coffee was on the police department. The confusion that were on their faces immediately changed to smiles, thank yous and a lot of conversation that may have never taken place. It’s a great program” said the chief.
