First “Operation Christmas Child” is a Big Success

Fairfield (NJ) Between early October and November 13, 2017, The Fairfield Police Department served as a collection site for “Operation Christmas Child”, a charitable program which encourages the public to fill a gift wrapped shoe boxes with small toys, toiletries, and educational items which will later be distributed to underprivileged children around the world. “My administrative assistant, Sharon McNamara, brought the idea to me and was the catalyst behind its local success” said Chief Anthony G. Manna. This is the first time the department participated in this event.

The department collected approximately 100 boxes which were then dropped off at a collection site in Parsippany, N.J. They will then be brought to a distribution center in Maryland in preparation for their final destination, the hands of child in need of some holiday spirit.

“Our department is always glad to participate in these charitable programs, and as always, the Fairfield community responded in such a positive way” said the chief. The department is currently serving as a collection sight for non-perishable food to aid the St. Thomas More food pantry and also as a collection site for the United States Marine Corps. Toys for Tots program. Anyone wishing to make donations to either one of these programs can bring their donations to the lobby of the police department at any time.
