Morning Motor Vehicle Crash Leads to DUI Arrest

Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Joseph Kavlick (56) of Kearny, N.J. for driving while under the influence on September 25, 2013. On that date, at approximately 10:50 A.M., Officers Brian Sabatelli and Brian Holzmann were dispatched to the area of Commerce Road and Plymouth Street, to investigate a driver having a possible medical emergency.

Upon arrival, the officers allegedly observed a 2000 Dodge Durango on the lawn belonging to the Fairfield Fire Department. The vehicle was still running and in drive when the officers arrived and the lone driver, identified as Kavlick, was initially found to be unresponsive but then allegedly came around. It is alleged that the officers found eight cold cans of beer in the vehicle, with three of the cans being emptied. Kavlick was then transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson in police custody.

He was eventually charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, driving under the influence in a school zone, consumption of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, driving while suspended and careless driving. (It should be noted that these charges are merely allegations and that he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law)
