Captain Daniel Dias
Operations Division Commander
Captain Dias joined the Fairfield Police Department in January of 1999. Following his graduation from the Essex County Police Academy in June of 1999, where he received the physical fitness award for the 99-1 Academy class, he was assigned to the Patrol Section.
In 1995 he achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the University of Rhode Island and also attended Richmond University in Kensington, England as part of an internship/study abroad program with the United States Navy in London, England.
In 2002, he became a certified firearms instructor and became a member of the Firearms Unit. He is also a certified Glock, Remington and Colt armorer. In 2002, following his tenure with the Patrol Section, Captain Dias was assigned to the Investigative Section and served as the agency’s juvenile detective and Juvenile Conference Committee Coordinator/Liaison. In addition to handling juvenile matters he also handled general investigations and served as the firearms applicant and licensing detective for the agency. Furthermore, he served as the agency’s first member of the Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT) while also acting as the West Essex DVRT Liaison designed to assist victims of domestic violence.
In addition, Captain Dias is a certified ALICE instructor which deals with teaching others how to respond to an active shooter event. In 2012 he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and served as a patrol squad supervisor. In 2017 he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant where he served as the Patrol Section Commander. In 2021 he was promoted to his current position as captain.
As Operations Division Commander, Captain Dias oversees the Patrol and Emergency Management Sections as well as the Emergency Response Team, Special Enforcement Unit, Firearms Training Unit, Drone Unit, Emergency Services Unit and School Security Unit.
