Caldwell Man Arrested for Aggravated Assault

Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announce the arrest of George Gergatsoulis (31) of Caldwell, NJ for aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and terroristic threats.

On February 1, 2023, officers were called to a Ray Place address which Gergatsoulis has been residing at for a fight in progress between two males, with one male possibly having a knife.  Officer James Ciampi was first to arrive on scene and detained Gergatsoulis, who had a large butcher knife in his possession.  Additional officers also responded to the scene to assist.

After investigation, it was determined that Gergatsoulis and another male engaged in a physical altercation prior to officers arriving on scene.  During this altercation, Gergatsoulis allegedly brandished the butcher knife in a threatening manner towards the other male.  Gergatsoulis was ultimately placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing.  He was eventually transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark pending an initial court appearance.

(It should be noted that the charges against Gergatsoulis are merely allegations and that he is presumed innocent until he either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law)
