Fairfield (NJ) – The Fairfield Police Department has announced the arrest of Javion Morris (25), of Niagara Falls, New York, following a late-night motor vehicle stop on Route 46 that resulted in the discovery of a substantial amount of currency and a significant quantity of illegal substances.
On April 8, 2026, at approximately 9:56 pm, Officer Patrick Reynolds was monitoring traffic on Route 46 East when he observed a silver vehicle commit several motor vehicle violations. He then conducted a motor vehicle stop of that vehicle, a 2026 Hyundai Genesis, and found Morris to be the only occupant. Officer Ryan Cleary arrived at the scene shortly after to assist.
A number of items made the officers suspicious of Morris as it is alleged, he was unable to provide a legitimate timeline for his travel or explain his presence in Fairfield. It is further alleged that Morris was extremely nervous while speaking with the officers and was receiving calls on several cell phones during the traffic stop.
As the investigation progressed, a K-9 from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department was requested. Upon arrival, the K-9 performed an open-air sniff and allegedly provided a positive alert for the presence of illegal substances within the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded the discovery of (128) sealed packets of raw marijuana weighing approximately one pound, (26) 4-ounce jars of suspected marijuana hashish weighing approximately eight pounds, a variety of packaging materials and just under $245,000 in various denominations of U.S. currency. Also found in the vehicle was a set of brass knuckles.
Morris was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. He was charged with:
· Possession with Intent to Distribute (1st degree)
· Money Laundering (2nd degree)
· Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (3rd degree)
· Possession of Prohibited Weapon (4th degree)
Additionally, Morris received two motor vehicle summonses. The vehicle, which was a rental car, was towed back to headquarters for further investigation. Morris was transported to the Essex County Jail pending an initial court appearance.
“This arrest strongly indicates just how lucrative the illegal marijuana business still remains in our state even with New Jersey having approved and licensed legal cannabis dispensaries. We want everyone to know our officers are specially trained and remain highly motivated and vigilant in detecting those individuals who engage in narcotics trafficking and distribution” said Chief Anthony G. Manna.
Over the last three weeks, our officers have requested assistance from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit on three separate occasions that resulted in the arrest of four individuals. One of these seizures that took place on March 31, 2026, was of an ounce of Tusi, sometimes called “pink cocaine” that was allegedly destined for distribution.
“My advice to those who still want to engage in illegal narcotics activities is to bypass Fairfield as our officers get great satisfaction in finding and arresting you and I truly commend their efforts,” said the chief.
(Charges are merely allegations until the defendant is proven guilty or pleads guilty in a court of law).
