Fairfield Fire Department Battles Afternoon House Fire

Fairfield (NJ) On June 9, 2020, at approximately 4:55 P.M., the Fairfield Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a house fire on Big Piece Road. First responding police officers arrived to find the home’s garage fully involved in flames. The home’s two occupants and dog were able to safely exit the residence. The Fairfield Fire Department, assisted by the West Caldwell and North Caldwell, were able to extinguish the fire in approximately thirty minutes.

The West Essex First Aid Squad and EMS7 stood by at the fire scene. While at the scene, the home’s owner complained of chest pains as did a Fairfield firefighter who also complained of shortness of breath. Both were checked at the scene and refused any additional medical treatment.

Fire officials conducted a cause/origin investigation and determined that the fire appeared to be accidental and apparently started in the garage in the area where an electric garden tool was located.
