Fairfield Police Investigate Suspicious Fire, Damages Recreation Complex Bathrooms and ConcessioN

Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department is actively investigating the cause of a fire that severely damaged a building at the Fairfield Recreation Complex located at 221 Hollywood Avenue. The building is located near the turf field and contains bathrooms, the field’s concession stand and is also used for storage.


On June 25, 2021, at approximately 8:16 PM, the police department received several 9-1-1 calls reporting a structure fire at the Fairfield Recreation Complex. Police and fire units were immediately dispatched. Upon the arrival of the first responding police officers, it was determined that the concession stand building was fully involved in fire. The Fairfield Fire Department, assisted by the West Caldwell and North Caldwell Fire Departments, quickly extinguished the blaze. The West Essex First Aid Squad also responded as well but there were no injuries reported during the incident.


A joint investigation between the Fairfield Fire Prevention Bureau and detectives from the Fairfield Police Department was undertaken and preliminary results indicate that the cause of the fire appears to be suspicious. The investigation is ongoing.


Anyone who may have witnessed any activity in or around the concession stand between 7:45 PM and 8:15 PM on June 25, 2021, or may have any other information concerning this fire is asked to contact the Fairfield Police Department’s Investigative Section at (973) 227-1400.
