Lodi Resident Arrested After Foot Chase for Possession of Stolen Car

Fairfield (NJ) – The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Robert Hollingsworth, (31), of Lodi, N.J. for possessing a stolen motor vehicle on March 30, 2024.  On that date at approximately 1:02 pm, officers were notified by the Automated License Plate Reader system (ALPR) that a stolen vehicle had just entered town. The system notified officers the vehicle in question was a green Kia Soul with N.J. registration E78LJT, and it had been reported stolen out of the city of Passaic on March 27, 2024.

Officer Patrick Reynolds located the vehicle a short time later parked, running, but unoccupied in the parking lot of the BP gas station on Route 46 East.  He monitored the vehicle and soon after his arrival, saw a male exit the convenience store and approach the vehicle.  At this time Officer Reynolds approached the vehicle and contactedHollingsworth.

It is alleged that Hollingsworth ran from Officer Reynolds prior to being placed under arrest.  He was eventually apprehended with the assistance of Officer Louis Bisciotti near the Double Tree Hotel.  Additional officers arrived on scene a short time later to assist.

Hollingsworth was subsequently transported to police headquarters for processing.  Both officers as well as Hollingsworth sustained minor injuries from the arrest.  All were evaluated by EMS and refused further medical treatment.

Hollingsworth was charged with being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle, obstruction, and resisting arrest.  In addition to these charges, a warrant for his arrest was located out of Pennsylvania.  He was later transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, N.J. pending a first appearance.

(Charges are merely allegations until the defendant is proven guilty or pleads guilty in a court of law).
