Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Alexandra Marquez (34) of Newark, N.J., for possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and two counts of possession of unlawful weapons on October 18, 2019.
On that date, at approximately 4:20 P.M., Officer Rick Alves was on patrol on Passaic Avenue when he observed a blue Honda Civic allegedly with illegally tinted windows. A computer inquiry of the vehicle’s registration revealed that the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license. The vehicle was then stopped and found to be operated by Marquez.
While speaking with Marquez, it is alleged that the officer smelled a pungent odor of raw marijuana coming from within the vehicle. Subsequent investigation allegedly revealed the discovery of a small quantity of marijuana inside of the glove compartment. Also allegedly recovered was a canister of chemical spray in an amount greater then permitted by law, as well as an expandable police baton. At this point she was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing.
In addition to the criminal charges, Marquez was also charged with a number of motor vehicle violations to include driving with a suspended license and possessing a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. She was eventually released on her own recognizance.
(It should be noted that the charges against Marquez are merely allegations and that she is presumed innocent until she either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law)
