​North Bergen Woman Arrested for DUI

Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Jessica Santana (35) of North Bergen, N.J. for driving under the influence on January 28, 2023. On that date, at approximately 2:20 A.M., Special Police Officer Gia Gagliano was on patrol on Route 46 West when she observed a 2014 Infinity allegedly commitseveral motor vehicle violations to include failing to keep right, making an unsafe lane change and disregarding a stop sign. She stopped the vehicle on Fairfield Road and found the lone operator to be Santana. Upon requesting her driving credentials, it is alleged that Santana displayed signs and symptoms consistent with being under the influence to include the presence of an odor of an alcoholic beverage, watery eyes, excited and rambling speech and fumbling hand movements.

 

As a result, field sobriety tests were administered and ultimately was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath testing. It is alleged that a cup containing a suspected alcoholic beverage was found in the car as well as two bottles of an alcoholic beverage. The vehicle was impounded pursuant to New Jersey law. It is further alleged that, while at headquarters, she refused to provide samples of her breath for testing.

 

In addition to being charged with driving under the influence and refusing to submit to a breath test, Santana was also charged with eight other motor vehicle offenses. She was released on her own recognizance pending an initial appearance in the Fairfield Municipal Court on February 9, 2023.

 

(It should be noted that the charges against Santanaare merely allegations and that she is presumed innocent until she either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law)
