Pair Arrested in Used Cooking Oil Theft

Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Carl Watson (35) and Jamil Pugh (47) both of Newark, N.J. for burglary, theft, criminal trespass, and possession of burglar tools on September 23, 2022.

On that date, at approximately 1:57 AM, the Fairfield Police Department was alerted to a possible theft of used cooking oil that was in progress in the rear of Jose Tejas located on Route 46 West. It is alleged that responding officers found a 1999 Ford van backed up to the fenced in area where the oil tank was located. It is alleged that the lock to this area had been cut and that both Watson and Pugh were in the act of syphoning the oil out of the tank into a large plastic storage container inside of the van. The van was impounded, and it was determined that approximately $650 of used cooking oil was taken. While conducting their investigation, it is alleged that the officers discovered a tablet believed to be a controlled dangerous substance in possession of Watson.

In addition to the previously stated charges, Watson was also charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Both were eventually taken to the Essex County Jail in Newark, N. J. pending a hearing in the superior court.

This is the second similar arrest made at this location. Two individuals were arrested on August 30, 2022 doing pretty much the same thing.

(It should be noted that the charges against both are merely allegations and that both are presumed innocent until they either plead guilty or is found guilty in a court of law)
