Toms River Man Arrested for DUI After Motor Vehicle Stop

Fairfield (NJ) – The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Jayson Dicosta (48) of Toms River, NJ for driving while intoxicated on March 9, 2026. On that date at approximately 8:30 am, Officer Jayson Sickles was patrolling southbound on Passaic Avenue and observed a silver vehicle stopped at a green traffic signal near New Dutch Lane. Officer Sickles heard a vehicle in front of him honk his horn several times, which prompted the vehicle to move.

Officer Sickles followed the vehicle, observed several additional motor vehicle violations, and conducted a traffic stop near the Essex County Airport. Dicosta was found to be the driver and only occupant. Officer Sickles allegedly observed Dicosta to be exhibiting signs and symptoms consistent with someone who is under the influence, which included slurred speech, glassy eyes and confusion when answering simple questions.

Standardized Field Sobriety Testing was conducted and Dicosta was subsequently placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. His vehicle was impounded per NJ law.

Dicosta was transported to police headquarters for processing. It is alleged his blood alcohol content was above the legal limit. He was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of drug paraphernalia, and several additional motor vehicle offenses. He was later released pending an initial court date.

(Charges are merely allegations until the defendant is proven guilty or pleads guilty in a court of law)
