Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department has charged Brian Katz (50) of Suffern, N.Y. on December 11, 2020 with the theft of approximately $127,000 worth of medical equipment. It is alleged that between February and August 2019 Katz, who was a warehouse manager for Cygnus Medical located on Kulick Road, stole medical equipment that he allegedly shipped to legitimate customers of the business. The customers then allegedly sent the payments directly to him. The theft scheme was uncovered in August 2019 when company management found a package that was being shipped to a customer but which had Katz’ home address on the return label. When he could not provide management with an explanation, Katz was terminated and the investigation was launched.
This joint investigation between company management and Fairfield Police Detective Sergeant Jeffrey Didyk took approximately a year to complete to determine the scope of the theft. It is alleged that Katz stole approximately $127,000 worth of merchandise. Katz was charged with second degree theft and is scheduled to appear in the superior court in Newark, N.J. on January 21, 2021.
(It should be noted that the charge against Katz is merely an allegation and that he is presumed innocent until he either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law)
