Automated License Plate Reader Assists Officers with Arrest of Wanted Person

Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Boris Raul Macola Guerra (38) of Miami, Fla. On an outstanding warrant issued by the South Plainfield Municipal Court for identity theft. The circumstances that led to the arrest are as follows:

On December 23, 2021, at approximately 11:09 AM, Fairfield police officers were alerted by its automated license plate reader system, that a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado, with a temporary Texas registration, was traveling east on Route 46 and that the vehicle was allegedly wanted by the South Plainfield Police Department for eluding police in the past. In addition, an individual that was allegedly associated with the vehicle was wanted for identity theft. Officers immediately checked Route 46 East for the vehicle with negative results.

At approximately 11:27 AM, Officer Rick Alves was at the intersection of Passaic Avenue and Little Falls Road, when he spotted the suspect vehicle. With the assistance of other Fairfield officers, the vehicle was stopped in the parking lot of the Doubletree Hotel on Route 46 East. The driver, identified as Guerra, was found to be wanted by the South Plainfield Police Department and was arrested on the active warrant. A second male was taken into custody for further investigation but was later released from custody.

It is alleged that a variety of credit cards were found in Guerra’s possession and that Fairfield detectives would be further investigating the origins of these cards. Guerra was eventually turned over to the South Plainfield Police Department.

“Once again, the department’s automated license plate reader system has assisted in the apprehension of a wanted criminal and has helped to make Fairfield safer” said Chief Anthony G. Manna.

(It should be noted that the charges against Guerra are merely allegations and that he is presumed innocent until he either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law)
