Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department welcomedits newest probationary police officer to the department on Monday July 28, 2025. Officer Carmelo Caramanna was sworn into his new position by Mayor William Galese in front of family, friends and fellow officers at the monthly meeting of the Governing Body.
Officer Carmelo Caramanna grew up in Bergen County. In September 2024, he began his college studies at Montclair State University in the area of justice studies. It was shortly after that when he spoke to a friend of his, Fairfield SLEO III Officer Carmine Pelosi and inquired about becoming a special police officer with Fairfield.
Officer Caramanna was interviewed, hired and then enrolled into the Bergen County Police Academy Basic Recruit Class #134 in January 2025. He graduated from the police academy in June 2025 and assumed his position as a SLEO II officer with the department. Due to some recent retirements within the department, it seemed a natural progression that Caramanna be elevated to the position of a full time probationary police officer.
Officer Caramanna will continue in the department’s field training program for a total of 12 weeks to assure he becomes familiar with department policy and procedures. He should be patrolling our streets sometime in September. “I am extremely proud of and glad to welcome Officer Carmelo Caramanna to the Fairfield Police Department family” said Chief Anthony G. Manna.
