Juvenile Male Arrested For Brandishing A Handgun

Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announce the arrest of a 15-year-old juvenile male from Washington DC (his name is being withheld due his age), for brandishing a handgun on March 5, 2023.  It is alleged that the victim was travelling through the Target parking lot when the juvenile male, along with two juvenile females, impeded his path for driving.  A verbal altercation ensued, at which time the juvenile male allegedly lifted his shirt displaying a black handgun in his waistband.  Scared for his safety, the victim fled the area and called police. As the victim was driving away, it is alleged he saw the juvenile male pull the handgun from his waistband and point it in his direction.

Fairfield Officers responded and were able to locate the three juveniles inside Target where they were all detained for further investigation.  It was determined that the two juvenile females were not involved in the incident and released to their parents.  The juvenile male was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing.  At the time of his arrest the handgun was not in his possession.

The Essex County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene with a K-9 to assist in searching the area for the weapon.  At the time of this press release it has not been located.

After processing, the juvenile was remanded to the Essex County Youth House in Newark.  He was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon – without a permit.

(It should be noted that the charges against the juvenile are merely allegations and that he is presumed innocent until he either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law)
