The Fairfield Police Department will begin to utilize Body-Worn Cameras (BWC)

The Fairfield Police Department will begin to utilize Body-Worn Cameras (BWC) in accordance with the guidelines and policies established by the NJ Attorney General and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. The department has used in-car cameras for almost two decades which have proven to be an asset in many ways. The addition of BWC’s will be utilized to enhance transparency and public trust throughout the community. These cameras will be worn on the officers’ chests and will record audio and video, similar to our in-car cameras. A BWC will allow for the continuation of a police “call for service” at a scene where the in-car camera can no longer capture it.

The public can expect the cameras are recording interactions when officers are in the performance of their official duties. The Fairfield Police will begin using the BWC on October 18th, 2021.
