Writer: Chief Anthony MannaChief Anthony Manna

Fairfield (NJ) – The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Ruddy Moreltorres (45), of Clifton, NJ after he allegedly discharged his weapon inside Garda, an armed security service facility, on November 6, 2023.  On that date at approximately 6:25 pm, officers were dispatched to 210 Fairfield Road on a report that an employee accidently fired his weapon while at work.

Officers arrived on scene and located a male victim who was injured after allegedly being struck by debris from the discharge. Further investigation determined that Moreltorres was allegedly showing his work service weapon to another employee when it went off.

Officer Frank Patierno and Detective Michael Tilton investigated the incident.  It was determined that Moreltorres was legally permitted to carry his weapon in New Jersey.  It is alleged that his weapon, along with a second legally owned weapon in his vehicle, were both loaded with hollow point ammunition, which is illegal in New Jersey.

Based on the totality, Moreltorres was placed under arrestand transported to headquarters for processing. He was charged with possession of prohibited weapons and devices, and later released pending a February 21, 2024 appearance at the Essex County Courthouse in Newark, NJ.  The case is currently under review by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and additional charges are pending.

(Charges are merely allegations until the defendant is proven guilty or pleads guilty in a court of law).
