Juvenile on E-Motorcycle Taken into Custody after Leading Police on Chase

Fairfield (NJ) On Thursday October 3, 2025, a 15 year old juvenile was taken into custody by the Fairfield Police Department shortly after failing to stop the e-motorcycle they were operating and leading police on a pursuit. It is alleged that, at approximately 6:00 PM, the juvenile, whose name is being withheld due to their age, wasoperating an e-motorcycle on Hollywood Avenue near the recreation complex. It is alleged that police observed this e-motorcycle doing a wheelie in a lane of traffic down Hollywood Avenue jeopardizing the safety of the general public and of the operator. This same vehicle and operator were observed doing the same thing, only a few minutes earlier, on Holly Drive and then illegally entering the Fairfield Recreation Complex.

After being spotted on Hollywood Avenue, officers attempted to stop the e-motorcycle, but the operator failed to stop and attempted to actively elude officers. The pursuit continued through Fairfield, with the operator committing several motor vehicle violations. It entered North Caldwell, at which time, officers discontinued trying to stop it after developing information about the possible identity of the operator. Officers responded to the residence of the suspect, who eventually returned to their home and was taken into custody. The e-motorcycle, which was identified as a 2025 Talaria XXX Pro, was recovered and impounded.

The juvenile was charged with the criminal offense of third degree eluding police, (12) motor vehicle violations and a violation of the Fairfield local ordinance prohibiting e-bikes to operate in township parks and on township sidewalks. The case is being referred to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office for disposition in the Family Court.

The e-motorcycle involved in this incident can and didexceed 50 mph creating a substantial risk to the public, the operator and to our officers. Since June, the department has done all it could to try and educate parents and operators and express the importance of adhering to the local ordinance that has been duly enacted by the governing body prohibiting their operation in parks, on sidewalks and in other locations.

Now, it is highly recommended that parents and guardians have one last serious conversation with their children about following the law when operating any e-bike, e-motorcycle, e-scooter or other items that are regulated by township ordinance because, effective immediately, the Fairfield Police Department will have zero tolerance for their illegal operation.

Any of these vehicles found being operated in any prohibited area like the recreation complex or on sidewalks, the operator will receive a local ordinance summons, and the vehicle will be impounded. Operatorsshall also adhere to the state law regarding helmets and passengers.

(It should be noted that the charges against this suspect are merely allegations and that they arepresumed innocent until they either plead guilty or are adjudicated guilty in a court of law)
