No Go for Pokémon Cards as Boonton Resident Arrested for Shoplifting

Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Joshua Sabatino (25), of Boonton, NJ for shoplifting on April 16, 2023. On that date at approximately 1:58 pm, Fairfield officers Ryan Cleary and Vincent Purcell were dispatched to Target on a report of a shoplifter in custody.

Upon their arrival they found Sabatino being detained by Target security. It is alleged that Target security observed Sabatino under ring boxes of Pokémon cards at the self-checkout using a lower-valued bar code which was placed in his hand. The cards, valued at $564.89, were rung up for a total amount of $54.89.

Sabatino was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. He was charged with shoplifting and released on his own recognizance pending a June 14, 2023 appearance at the Essex County Superior Court.

(It should be noted that the charges are merely allegations and that there is a presumption of innocence until Sabatino either pleads guilty or are found guilty in a court of law)
