Organized Crime Member Arrested for Stealing Thousands from Victim

Fairfield (NJ) – The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Xuan Jin (50) of Flushing, NY for theft that occurred on November 21 and 22, 2024.  On those dates it is alleged that Jin obtained personal banking information from a Fairfield resident and used that information for cash withdrawals.  In total, over the two days, $12,000.00 was withdrawn from the victim’s account.

Detective Sergeant Jeffrey Didyk worked this case and with assistance from the Fort Lee Police, NYPD and the Rockland County Intelligence Center, was able to identify Jin as the suspect.  Intelligence was gathered identifying Jin as a member of an organized crime ring based out of New York City.  This organized crime ring is known to prey on people in the Asian community, specifically by stealing mail containing banking information.  They thenpose as their victims and are able withdrawal money from their bank accounts.  

Jin was entered as a wanted person and remained at large until he was recently arrested by the NYPD.  He was subsequently extradited to the Bergen County Jail and finally to the Essex County Jail on May 22, 2025.  Jin currently remains there on charges of identity theft, theft, and forgery pending an initial court date.

“We strongly urge people to grab their mail once they know it has been delivered to try and protect themselves,” said Public Information Officer Stacy Chiarolanza.  “While this crime was specific to the Asian community, anyone can be a victim.  It is also good practice to drop all outgoing mail directly into a USPS box or directly to the post office.  Leaving outgoing mail in your mailbox with your flag up is a dead giveaway to criminals that are looking to steal mail.”
