Spain Man Arrested for DUI

Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police announce the arrest of Isaac Alvarez-Cespedes (31) of A Coruña, Spain, for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence on February 4, 2023. On that date, at approximately 3:01am, Officer Ryan Cleary was on patrol when he allegedly observed a 2011 blue Toyota Yaris being driven on Route 46 West. The officer noted that the vehicle was not able to maintain its lane and drove for an extended period of time straddling the dotted white lines which divide the lanes.

He conducted a motor vehicle stop and found Alvarez-Cespedes to be the operator. It is alleged that Alvarez-Cespedes displayed signs and symptoms consistent with an individual who is under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to include a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath, glassy, watery, and bloodshot eyes, and slurred speech. At this point, field sobriety testing was administered.

Based upon the results and the totality of the circumstances, Alvarez-Cespedes was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for breath testing. His vehicle was impounded pursuant to New Jersey law. While at headquarters, it is alleged he provided samples of his breath indicating he was above the legal limit.

In addition to being charged with driving under the influence, he was also charged with four additional motor vehicle offenses. He was later released on his own recognizance pending an initial hearing at the Fairfield Municipal Court.

(It should be noted that the charges against Alvarez-Cespedes are merely allegations and that he is presumed innocent until he either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law)
